Neil Affleck was born and grew up in Montreal. In the mid-70s he studied animation as an apprentice at the National Film Board of Canada. he then spent three years training for the theatre and six years as a professional actor in Montreal and Toronto. In 1985 he moved to California and studied filmmaking at UCLA for three years, then embarked on 12 years service in the Los Angeles animation industry, most notably ten seasons on The Simpsons as an animation timer, and director. In 1991 he directed and animated the celebrated animated documentary Sacajawea. From 1996 to 1999 he taught experimental animation at the California Institute of the Arts. In 2001 he returned to Canada and spent 12 years as a supervising director at Nelvana. Since 2013 he has divided his time between teaching at Seneca College Animation Arts, storyboarding and working as an actor.
