METAL! Our good friends at DNEG Animation brought you this years’ TAAFI Summer Screening of Netflix's Nimona, and now they’re back with a very special behind-the-scenes look at the film! Bamboo Wang (Effects Lead), Johan Dekker (Motion Graphics Supervisor) and Anthony Kemp (Digital Producer) will reveal some of the magic that was cast to bring this one-of-a-kind best-selling graphic novel to life.

Anthony Kemp, Digital Producer, DNEG
Anthony Kemp is the Digital Producer for 'Nimona'. He started his career over 12 years ago at Pixar Animation Studios in Emeryville, California. During Anthony's 8 years with Pixar, he contributed to two shorts and five features, including 'Inside Out' and 'Toy Story 4'. In 2019, Anthony moved to London to join DNEG Animation where he managed Animation on 'Ron's Gone Wrong'. His experience as a strategic problem-solver and dedication to bringing out the best in his teams made him the ideal captain for the 'Nimona' family.
Johan Dekker, Motion Graphics Supervisor, DNEG
Johan Dekker (he/him) is a London based Motion Graphics Supervisor with 14 years experience in motion design for Feature Animation, Feature Film and Advertising. He was the Motion Graphics Supervisor at DNEG Animation for Netflix's ‘Nimona’. With a background in 3D motion graphics, Johan brings passion and eclectic experience to creating stunning 2D and 3D designed graphics and integrates them into a larger film canvas to aid in visual storytelling and world building. Other key credits include ‘Ron’s Gone Wrong’ for DNEG Animation, ‘Foundation’, ’Ready Player One’, ’Pacific Rim Uprising’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’.
Zhujun "Bamboo" Wang, Effects Lead, DNEG
Zhujun Bamboo Wang has loved animation since she was a kid. She carried her passion through college and graduate school, receiving a bachelor's degree in 2D Animation and a Master's in VFX. Bamboo has worked in LA, Beijing, and Montreal. She has worked as an FX Artist on 'Suicide Squad', the 'Fantastic Beasts' franchise, 'Alien: Covenant', 'Ad Astra', 'Narcos', 'Scoob', and more. In the spring of 2021 Bamboo joined DNEG Animation where she feels fortunate to have worked on 'Nimona' as a first time lead.
Sonika Bagwe, Freelance Illustrator
Sonika Bagwe (she/they), is a freelance Illustrator, aspiring Storyboard Artist and your local work in progress! She graduated from OCAD University from their Integrated Media; DPXA program with a specialization on 2D animation back in 2022, and has been building their portfolio since. She has been a TAAFI volunteer since 2018 and has loved every second of it! On their free time, she’s either writing, watching movies, thinking about cartoons, or knitting up a storm!
