Monica Violet Joy

Monica Violet Joy is an award-winning creator, writer, director and producer in the animation industry. She is Head Writer, Executive Producer, and Creator of the series, The Laughing Dragon, Creator and Head Writer of Magna-Tiles' upcoming independent IP, and Co-Creator and Writer for Build-A-Bear's upcoming series, Kabu. She was Consulting Producer on the Netflix’s hit, Go Dog Go! She has worked as a Writer on the acclaimed, Bubbles and Friends and Writer as well as Co-Creator of Future Chicken at Wind Sun Sky Entertainment.

She also was Senior Producer and Executive in charge of a little show called CoComelon, receiving accolades for growing the series to over 150 million subscribers in two years, helping to sell the property for $3 billion. Monica has worked as a Writer, in development and production for popular series such as: Blues Clues, Bubble Guppies, Kamp Koral, Spongebob, Star Trek: Lower Decks, Team Umizoomi, Wallykazam, and on popular films such as: Nimona, Ferdinand, Spies in Disguise, Ice Age V, and The Peanuts Movie.

Her independent animated films (including 2x animated shorts based on Pegasus Tales) have received accolades in over 50 festivals around the world. In 2023, For her contributions to the industry and activism for women’s equality, Monica was a finalist for a Women of Inspiration Award, nominated by the Universal Women's Network™.

She has been a mentor for students and young professionals globally for over a decade, often partnering with Women in Animation to empower and provide guidance to any girl who dares to dream big.

Monica somehow finds time to run her own independent studio, Monica Violet Joy Productions, dedicated to producing her independent projects and only hiring women alongside nonbinary and other gender nonconforming groups.

In the academia world, Monica has lectured for a variety of higher education institutions such as: New York University, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Florida, Montclair State University, and the University of East Anglia.
